About the project

"Waste statistics - key enabler for the circular economy" project financed by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), from the funds of the Cooperation Development Program of the Austrian Government (ADC) is implemented by AO Association for Waste Recovery, between April and September 2021.

The project is designed to address one of the main challenges facing the waste management system in the Republic of Moldova, namely, the low level of information/empowerment at all levels, including due to the continued reduced access to relevant waste data. Poor data quality has always been cited as a major barrier to properly measuring the effectiveness of funding in terms of its impact on meeting the objectives set out in the Waste Management Strategy, including in relation to – Data management and communication. Thus, the main objective proposed by the project is to collect, analyze, structure and present various relevant data in the field of waste management at the national level.

According to the European Ecological Pact,  accessible and interoperable data is at the heart of data-driven innovation. This data, combined with digital infrastructure (e.g. supercomputers, cloud technology, ultra-fast networks) and artificial intelligence, facilitates data-driven decision-making and improves the ability to understand and address environmental challenges. Now, more than ever, digitization has made collecting large amounts of data much easier. However, masses of data alone do not create much value, just being able to analyze the data and view statistics makes it so valuable.

By implementing this project, AVD primarily aims to increase the level of empowerment of stakeholders (especially decision makers) through the use of digital tools for research, information and knowledge regarding solid waste management. Finally, the planned results will contribute to increasing the level of clarity and transparency by inventorying and visualizing waste statistics, supporting stakeholders to make better decisions based on data relevant to the sector.

The initiative "Plastic Waste in the Circular Economy: Community Solutions" combats the problem of plastic waste through actions at the local level. Run by the NGOs "Verde e Moldova" and "E-CIRCULAR" with GEF funding, the project implements educational measures, collection and prevention of plastic pollution in three communities in the Republic of Moldova.

Run away from plastic

The "Plastic Escape" project, developed by AO "EcoDigital" and its partners, is dedicated to reducing plastic pollution and promoting a healthy lifestyle through activities such as plogging. The initiative encourages sustainable practices and makes the public aware of the dangers of plastic, offering eco-friendly solutions for the prevention and reuse of plastic waste.
