The project "Citizen involved for a CLEAN river" is designed by AO Association for Waste Recovery in partnership with the Municipality of Străseni with the aim of carrying out activities in the locality aimed at influencing the unsustainable attitude and behavior among the population and to address one of the most serious environmental problems in the locality - pollution and contamination of the water from the streams that cross the town and that flow into the Bîc river. Given the proposed objectives, the project directly aims at the sanitation of a portion of the river and the area in the immediate vicinity by involving as many people as possible in sanitation activities. The main result pursued is the awareness of the population and the collection of as much waste as possible, which presents an increased risk for water and soil. The quality of the activities initiated in this regard will be supplemented by carrying out the excavation activity of a portion of the stream, which as a finality, will solve the problem of clogging the channel currently blocked with mud and waste.

In this process, the priority emphasis is placed on communication, information and involvement of the population. In order to achieve this goal, it will be launched this March, Information campaign and waste collection, which is an activity part of the project, carried out with the aim of educating a responsible behavior among the younger generation, and through them to stimulate the participatory spirit also among the adults: parents, grandparents, friends, colleagues, employees, etc. The main result pursued through this collection and information campaign is to reduce the amount of waste stored in landfills or ending up in local streams, increasing the share of selectively collected recyclable waste and their final valorization, forming the moral and civic attitude of young people/citizens on solving environmental problems and a healthy way of life. The application of acquired knowledge will contribute to the improvement of the quality of sanitation services and the development of a culture based on respect for the environment and its peers, and with them - reducing the impact of waste on the environment and health.

AO "Association for Waste Valorification" (hereinafter AVD) is the beneficiary of the Small Grants Program with the financial support of the Swedish Government and the support of the National Center for the Environment and implements the project in the municipality of Strășeni "Informed citizen for a cleaner river". The project is implemented in partnership with the Străseni City Hall between February and October 2022.
