On May 7, the first launch event took place WEEE classes from the Republic of Moldova, as well as the completion and presentation of the results recorded during the implementation of the "We Recycle WEEE and Realize the SDGs" project, implemented by AO EcoDigital with the support of the GEF - UNDP Small Grants Program.
The creation of a laboratory class dedicated to WEEE being one of the objectives of the project, it is arranged in the premises of the College of Ecology and is equipped with various samples of WEEE, which allows the study and visualization in detail of the types of materials from which they are composed (plastic, metal, electronics, etc.). On the same day, an electronic equipment repair workshop led by the Young Makers Club took place.
During the presentation "Study on the generation and management of WEEE in the Republic of Moldova" data were presented on the most common electronic equipment in the household, the main reasons for replacing defective equipment, calculations on the impact on the climate and the life cycle cost of electronic equipment, the average duration of use of an equipment, the reasons for avoiding repair, expectations and the obstacles of the population regarding the collection of WEEE, as well as necessary actions to stimulate the collection of WEEE.
Another objective achieved by the project is the expansion of WEEE collection points from the municipal level to the national level. Finally, at the moment there are approximately 200 WEEE collection points, the location of the points being available online. In total, between 2018 and 2022, at least 200 tons of WEEE were collected, the treatment of which is provided by operators authorized by the Environment Agency (Moldrec and EcoRecycling).
The project "We recycle WEEE and realize the ODD" is implemented by AO "EcoDigital" with the financial support of Small Grants Program (SGP), implemented by UNDP in partnership with AO E-CIRCULAR, College of Ecology, "Eco Recycling" SRL and "Moldrec Grup" SRL
