In the year 2022, "Waste Management" Magazine continues to provide readers with useful, up-to-date and hopefully necessary information to improve the current waste management system. Through the achievement articles, we get to know better the successful projects implemented at the national level (e.g. organic waste composting), the successes of LPAs (e.g. s. Mereni), good practices how to prevent the formation of waste or what danger we face when we consume products packaged in plastic. However, we leave more to the subscribers to discover and share with us the accumulated knowledge!

About the magazine

The right to repair, the first step towards reducing WEEE

According to the Global E-waste Monitor, the world generated 53.6 million metric tons of e-waste in 2019, an average of 7.3 kg for every person on Earth. The best way to slow the growth of e-waste is to keep electronics in use as long as possible.

INTERVIEW with People in Need Moldova about organic waste composting

The production of organic fertilizers is a crucial component for organic farming, and compost is a valuable fertilizer that has exceptional properties for the soil and is a perfect example of reusing and valorizing waste.

You are never too small to do great things. One step away from the circular economy!

As countries and industries around the world struggle against global warming, climate change mitigation and adaptation represent unique opportunities that can drive the transformation/modernization of the waste industry towards achieving sustainable development goals.

Interview with Valentin Vieru, Mereni village mayor

In the village of Mereni we do not have an official strategy developed, however, we had a waste management plan that emerged from the sincere desire to find a feasible and eco-sustainable solution. Today, in the town of Mereni we have an efficient waste management system based on  selective waste collection and sanitation fee.

The "alphabet" of waste collection. About the activity of Î.M. Regia Autosalubriatate.

The "Solid Waste Chisinau" project aims to prevent environmental contamination by reducing the rate of waste production and storage, by correct sorting and proper disposal of waste

Plastic migrates into food.

Without knowing it, every week we consume almost 2,000 micro-particles of plastic, which is about 5 grams or a full teaspoon. It is well known that plastic is not biodegradable, but breaks down into small particles that end up everywhere, including in food our.

Why does Zero Waste go hand in hand with the Circular Economy?

In 2020, the rate of circular use of materials in the EU (called circularity rate) reached 12.8%. This means that almost 13% of the material resources used in the EU come from recycled waste. This information comes from data published by Eurostat.

The separate collection of bio-waste, necessary for a CIRCULAR ECONOMY!

Only 16% of bio-waste is collected separately in the EU, leaving this valuable resource largely untapped. Most are incinerated or landfilled, further contributing to carbon and methane emissions.
