The promotion and application of the practice of waste sorting at source and the successful implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility mechanism must represent a political priority at the national level. But an incomplete or in some places absent infrastructure for waste management will result in the fact that REP schemes may over time prove to be ineffective in meeting their intended objectives.
